Fears, phobias & unwanted reactions in St Helens

You can know something is safe and still feel your body react as if it is not. That gap between what you know and what you automatically feel is often what people want help changing.

When logic does not switch the reaction off

A fear response can feel faster than conscious thought

A specific situation, object, place or memory can trigger a strong response before you have time to reason with it. That may lead to avoidance, physical tension, panic-like sensations or planning your life around not encountering the trigger.

Focused change work looks at how that response is represented internally and whether a different response can be developed.

Examples may include:

  • Specific fears or phobia-like responses.
  • Public speaking or performance nerves.
  • Travel or driving fears.
  • Fear of judgement, rejection or confrontation.
  • Strong reactions to particular situations or memories.
  • Avoidance that is restricting everyday life.
How focused change work may approach fear

Work with the automatic pattern

Identify the trigger and sequence

What happens first? What do you picture, hear internally or predict? What happens in your body, and what behaviour follows?

Change the internal response

Depending on the issue, I may use NLP, anchoring, reframing, EFT/Tapping, imagery-based change processes or selected hypnosis techniques.

Test for more choice

The aim is not bravado. It is to help you think about or encounter the situation with a more useful response and more behavioural choice.

A realistic approach

No responsible practitioner should guarantee a cure

People respond differently and some fear-based difficulties are more complex than others. If a fear is connected with significant trauma, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, severe panic or another clinical condition, specialist psychological support may be more appropriate.

Explore support by what you are experiencing

Start with the problem, not the method

You do not need to know whether NLP, EFT, coaching or another approach is right for you. Start with what is happening and what you want to change.

Questions people often ask

Frequently asked questions

Can NLP cure a phobia in one session?

I do not promise a cure or a one-session result. Some focused fear responses may shift quickly for some people, while others require more work or a different kind of support.

What if I know the fear is irrational?

That is common. Knowing something logically and changing the automatic emotional or physical response are not always the same thing. The work focuses on the response pattern itself.

Do I have to face the thing I am afraid of during the session?

Not necessarily. The exact process depends on the issue and suitability. We discuss what is appropriate before doing any change work.

Start with a conversation

You do not need to know the solution or the best way forward.

Tell me what is happening, how it is affecting you and what you would like to be different. The Free Change Consultation is a 15–30 minute conversation where I can understand what you are dealing with, answer your questions and advise you on the most appropriate next step.

Sessions are primarily online across the UK. Face-to-face sessions may also be available where appropriate.
